Ammonia Storage Tanks
Product Guide
What are the different types of Ammonia Storage Tanks?
The two most common storage usage for ammonia tanks are for anhydrous ammonia and aqua ammonia substances.
Anhydrous Ammonia is the most widely used inorganic chemicals in the world today. It’s in the production of fertilizers, explosives, and polymers. Additional anhydrous applications include DeNOx (pollution control), heat treatment, water treatment, chemical processing, and refrigeration uses.
Ammonium hydroxide, also known as aqua ammonia, is a clear, colorless liquid. It has a strong, pungent scent. This odor is very recognizable. Though we may not know it, we come in contact with it almost every day because household and industrial cleaners, glass cleaners, and smelling salts contain the ammonia chemical.
Safety and Handling of Ammonia Storage Tanks?
The U.S. Dept. of Labor regulates anhydrous ammonia; therefore, the construction of the storage tanks must be built according to the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and rated for 250 psig. Though there is are no published regulatory standards or specifications for aqua ammonia storage, Airgas Specialty Products treat handling aqua ammonia with the same precautions.
We also offer a unique service to help customers maintain ammonia system integrity, achieve maximum system performance, and keep employees and the surrounding community safe.
Just how important is your safety to us? We lead the field in ammonia safety training to keep you and your employees safe. We even can work with your team to provide customized ammonia training unique to your specific needs and uses of the product.
